I have talked about the design side of different things I have been learning during my internship with Blushington Blooms, so I thought I might take a little time to talk about some of the business side of things!
Throughout this internship I have not only gotten to do floral arranging, but I have also gotten to help with consultations, emails, and social media! Below I am going to break down each one and talk about some of the things I have been learning!
Consultations are probably my favorite thing to be apart of because this is when the brides come into Blushington Blooms shop to talk about what flowers they want for their wedding.
Typically, Blushington has consultations throughout the week just whenever they have a free hour of time to schedule one. I have gotten to be apart of a handful of these meetings whenever they need help taking notes. Basically I write down every detail of what the bride wants. Colors, flower types, arrangements, quantity, aesthetic, ribbon colors, you name it. While I am doing this, another girl is making the invoice so that we can price it as we go to help stay within the brides budget.
I love being apart of these because you sit there for an hour getting to know the bride and talking about flowers. It makes everything we do and arrange more personal. Every bride that comes in is so different and I love getting to talk to them and learn a little bit of their personality.
When they come in we start by talking about the bridal bouquet. After that we move on to the bridesmaids and then personals-- which include corsages and boutonnieres. After this we talk about what arrangements they want during the ceremony. This is usually when we find out if the bride wants an arch, or something similar, as an alter arrangement. And lastly, we talk about what floral arrangements they would like for the reception. This is typically all the center pieces.
One thing I do is email previous brides who we have already done their wedding flowers for and thank them for letting us be apart of their big day! We also like to ask if they would like to send us any photos from their day for us to post on our social media page!
Social Media / Advertising:
Over the weeks of interning I have worked a lot on their social media! One thing I get to do is update their website when we get professional photos sent to us from the weddings we have done! They have a gallery on their site that I organize these in and keep updated.
I also sometimes help them keep their instagram going by posting photos or helping with instagram stories.
Besides this I have done work on their brochures and business cards by updating them with new designs and photos and also ordering more when they are low on stock.
As much as I love everything that has to do with the art and design of being a florist, I did not get a business minor for nothing. I love business. I enjoy organizing and doing computer work as well!
